Bridal hair in Hamburg
Bridal hair is above all a question of planning. You need an appointment on the right day, a trial with enough lead time and, on the wedding day, a schedule that still holds when something comes up. When to reserve the appointment
Reserve the wedding day three to six months ahead, and rather earlier for the summer months. Statistikamt Nord writes for Hamburg: „In the year 2024, 5 320 marriages were contracted in Hamburg.“ (translation from the German; the German original wording is authoritative). In total that was 821 marriages more than in the year 2023, an increase of 18.3 percent. And further: „Most marriages were contracted in August (601).“ (translation from the German; the German original wording is authoritative). In those weeks, Saturdays in the hair salon are taken quickly. Tell us the time of the ceremony right away when you enquire, then we will clarify what can be arranged.
The trial appointment: six to eight weeks ahead
Ask for a trial when you enquire and place it six to eight weeks before the wedding. That leaves time for a second attempt if something does not sit right. Allow 60 to 90 minutes and come with hair washed the evening before, exactly as on the wedding day. The complete look is pinned up, you move around in it and look again after half an hour. Take photos from the front, from the side and from the back, because you will be photographed from behind and barely see the hairstyle yourself. Note down what works: the parting, the height and the position of the pins.
The wedding day: a realistic schedule
For the hairstyle we plan 60 to 90 minutes, and up to 120 for an elaborate updo with hair accessories. If make-up is added, count on two to three hours. Usually the hair comes first and the make-up afterwards, because pinning still means working on the head and the make-up should be the last thing applied. We open at 10 o'clock Monday to Friday and at 11 o'clock on Saturdays. For a ceremony in the morning that is not enough; that takes an appointment before regular opening. Ask about it when you enquire, and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done. Give us the date, the time of the ceremony and the number of people via the contact page or by phone.
Veil, comb and hair accessories
Bring the veil, comb, clip or flowers to the trial as well, including their weight. A heavy veil needs a firm base: a backcombed section or a tied root that the comb grips into. First the base, then the accessory. At the trial we can mark where the comb sits and practise taking it out once, so that you can remove the veil yourself after the ceremony without the hairstyle coming undone. Tell us beforehand whether you want to wear it above or below the bun, as that changes the whole structure.
Fine hair, very long hair
On average a head carries around 100 000 hairs, and their density lies between 180 and 350 hairs per square centimetre (Braun-Falco, Dermatologie, Venerologie und Allergologie). Fine hair often holds better when it is washed the evening before and gets volume at the roots. A hairpiece in your colour can add fullness; bring it to the trial. Very long or thick hair has weight, needs more pins and more time, so ask beforehand whether 90 minutes will be enough. If anything pulls, say so straight away.
Colour, length and care in the weeks before
Colour does not belong in the last week. We place roots, Highlights or Balayage two to three weeks before the wedding, so the result has time to settle and you can look at it calmly. There are separate pages on Balayage, Highlights and Keratin smoothing. Hair grows about one centimetre a month on average, and that is your yardstick if you still want to change the length. Should I wash my hair on the morning of the wedding?
Better the evening before. Freshly washed hair is smooth and slips; a day later it has more grip and pins hold better. Conditioner only on the lengths, not on the roots. On the morning itself, no oil and no heavy serum on the roots.
Can bridesmaids and my mother come along?
Ask when you enquire and tell us the number of people, then we will clarify whether the time can be arranged. Usually the companions are styled first and the bride last, so that her look is the freshest. Each further person adds about an hour, which moves the start earlier.
What does bridal hair cost?
The price depends on hair length and effort, and on whether a trial and the make-up are added. A simple pinned style is something different from an updo with hair accessories. The current details are in the price list, and when you enquire we will tell you the range for your appointment.
Who does the bridal hair at your studio?
Charlina is a master hairdresser and is in the house on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Ümit on the other days. In the hairdressing trade the master title is the highest qualification and a prerequisite for running your own business. For you that mainly means: if you would like to go to Charlina, request the appointment early, as Wednesdays and Saturdays are usually taken first.
