Microneedling in Hamburg
Microneedling is a mechanical treatment in which fine needles stimulate the uppermost layer of the skin at very short intervals. The skin responds with its own regeneration. Professionally it is assumed that it builds new collagen over the following weeks; how pronounced that turns out to be varies from person to person. It is asked for above all with large-pored skin, fine lines and uneven texture. At our studio in Hamburg-Hammerbrook, Hatice Ispir carries out the treatment herself, in the cosmetic field up to a needle depth of 0.5 millimetres.

What happens in the skin during microneedling
The pen guides fine needles vertically into the skin and out again, several hundred times per second. Tiny channels are created that close again within a few hours. The stimulus reaches the upper layers of the skin and encourages the skin's own regeneration. Professionally it is assumed that the skin builds new collagen over the following weeks. In the cosmetic field we work up to a needle depth of 0.5 millimetres. Deeper applications are considered medical and are reserved for doctors and licensed alternative practitioners (Heilpraktiker). The 0.5 millimetres are not a legal limit, but the recognised dividing line.
How a session works with us
First we take a look at your skin and clarify whether anything speaks against the treatment. Then the skin is cleansed. If you wish, you can apply a numbing product available from the pharmacy yourself before your appointment; we will tell you beforehand when the right moment for that is. The needling itself takes around 30 minutes on the face. After that, a soothing serum and a mask go onto the skin. In total you should allow around 60 minutes. We work with single-use needle modules; every module is used only once and disposed of afterwards.
How many sessions make sense
A single session freshens the skin up; it rarely changes anything visible about the texture. Three to six sessions four to six weeks apart are usual. This interval is no coincidence: the skin needs this time for its remodelling, and an earlier appointment only puts it under unnecessary stimulus. How many sessions it will be in your case is something we discuss after the first look at your skin. We agree the series together in advance, so that you know what you are letting yourself in for.
The first few days afterwards
Directly after the treatment the skin is red and warm, similar to mild sunburn. This pronounced redness usually settles within 24 to 48 hours; after that, sensitive skin keeps a slight trace. Slight swelling can remain for up to 72 hours, dryness and fine flaking for up to a week. You leave out sport and sauna for 48 hours, acidic skincare and retinol for 7 to 10 days. You avoid the tanning bed and direct sun for at least two weeks, and during this time sun protection factor 50 is part of every day, even when the sky is overcast.
When microneedling is not an option
We do not treat in the case of acute skin infections, open areas, active cold sores, active inflamed acne, fresh tan or sunburn, unclear moles, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with blood clotting disorders or blood-thinning medication, with a tendency to raised scars, and during chemotherapy or immunotherapy. After internal acne medication such as isotretinoin we leave a gap of several months; you stop retinoids 5 to 7 days beforehand. With rosacea, diabetes or autoimmune conditions we clarify this with a doctor in advance. With darker skin types we talk about pigment spots beforehand. Where exactly the line runs is stated by the Heilpraktikergesetz: the practice of medicine is, under § 1 Absatz 2, “any activity carried out professionally or commercially for the detection, cure or alleviation of diseases, ailments or bodily harm in humans, even if it is exercised in the service of others” (translation of the German wording; the German original version is authoritative). That is why we treat skin that is healthy, and not an illness. If you are unsure about a spot, have it looked at by a doctor first — and we will say so of our own accord if something catches our eye.

Frequently asked
Does microneedling hurt?
Most people experience it as a scratching or vibrating sensation, quite bearable but noticeable. The forehead, nose and the area around the mouth are more sensitive, because there is less padding there. If you would like to use a numbing product from the pharmacy, let us know beforehand and we will allow for the time it needs to work. Say something at any point if it becomes too much, then we work more shallowly.
What does microneedling cost with you?
We treat the face only. You will find the current price in our price list, where it also says what the consultation costs. Before the first session we take a calm look at your skin and plan the series together, so that you know in advance what you are letting yourself in for.
When can you see something?
A fresher complexion often shows after just a few days, as soon as the redness has subsided. Many people see finer pores and a more even surface after two to three weeks. The remodelling in the skin takes longer; the full result is usually two to three months after the first session.
How long does the result last?
After the series the skin carries on ageing quite normally, so the result gradually fades. Many people therefore keep it up with a single session every six to twelve months. How long it holds in your case depends a great deal on sun, smoking, sleep and your skincare at home.
Can I go straight back to work afterwards?
The pronounced redness is usually gone after 24 to 48 hours; after that, sensitive skin keeps a slight trace. Many people still put the appointment on a Thursday or Friday. You leave out make-up for the first 24 hours. We are open Monday to Friday until 8 pm, and from U1 Hauptbahnhof Süd it is around 500 metres on foot.
Which skin is cosmetic microneedling intended for?
Cosmetic microneedling is aimed at healthy skin and targets the appearance of the skin, pores and texture. We do not treat diseases of the skin or scars; that belongs in medical hands. If, when we look at your skin, there is nothing sensible for us to do, we will tell you openly and refer you on.
