Laser hair removal for the intimate area in Hamburg
Few subjects are looked up this often and written about this rarely in plain, factual terms. This page explains calmly and concretely how laser hair removal in the intimate area works with us in Hamburg-Hammerbrook: what separates the bikini line from the full area, how much you take off, how it feels, how many appointments are realistic and when we advise against it. The Aesthetic House is there exclusively for women, and Hatice Ispir carries out the treatment herself.

Bikini line or full: the difference
The bikini line means the edge: what shows at the sides beyond a normal pair of briefs, plus the strip above it. The labia stay untouched. Full means the entire intimate area including the labia. These two zones are exactly what you can book. How far inside the booked zone we work is something you decide at the studio: many leave a narrow strip, others want everything smooth. You can decide again at every appointment. How the method works in general is on our main page about laser hair removal; here it is only about this one zone.
How an appointment goes, and how much is actually visible
Appointments are scheduled one at a time. Nobody is sitting in the waiting area, and there are only women in the studio. Hatice Ispir carries out the treatment herself, and nobody else comes in. In the cabin you undress from the waist down and are given a towel that covers everything that is not currently being worked on. We work section by section, each time only the small field that is being treated. Both of us wear protective goggles. The intimate area itself usually takes only a few minutes; the first time, the conversation beforehand is longer than the treatment.
Does it hurt, and what helps
You do feel it, and that is part of the honest answer. Most people describe a short, warm snap, like a rubber band on the skin. The intimate area reacts more noticeably than legs or underarms, because the skin is thinner and the hair stronger. It helps when the cooling runs alongside and when we work in small fields; say so at any time if you need a break. Afterwards the skin is often reddened and warm, usually for a few hours. Blisters occur rarely, as do temporarily lighter or darker patches or, very rarely, scars. According to the Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz (Germany's Federal Office for Radiation Protection), that is a risk above all when the settings do not match skin type, tan and hair.
How many sessions, and at what intervals
The laser finds the hair through its pigment and reaches only hairs in the growth phase. The Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz writes: „The treatment works successfully only on those hair follicles in which a hair is currently growing.“ (our translation; the original German wording is authoritative). In the intimate area the intervals are usually 4 to 6 weeks, longer towards the end; 6 to 10 sessions are a realistic range. It works best on dark hair on light skin. The same source also states: „Red, light blond, grey or white hairs contain only little melanin. The desired permanent hair removal may not be achieved in these cases.“ (our translation; the original German wording is authoritative). We tell you that openly beforehand.
Shave beforehand, be gentle afterwards
Shave the area smooth 1 to 2 days before the appointment. Please leave out plucking, waxing and epilating for 4 weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the hair in the follicle. Also for 4 weeks beforehand: no tanning bed and no intense sun on the area, and just as long afterwards. Come with no cream, oil or deodorant on the skin. For around 48 hours after the appointment: no sport that makes you sweat, no sauna, no hot baths, no swimming pool. Soft cotton is more comfortable than tight jeans in the first few days. Shaving between appointments is allowed, anything that removes the root is not.
When we advise against it or postpone
A fresh tan is the most common reason. The Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz records: „The skin should therefore not be tanned before the treatment.“ (our translation; the original German wording is authoritative). After a holiday, a tanning bed or self-tanner we wait. The same applies with medicines that make the skin sensitive to light, such as certain antibiotics, acne medicines or St John's wort. We leave out moles and tattoos; pigmented skin changes belong in dermatological hands first. You take piercings out beforehand. During pregnancy and breastfeeding we do not treat the intimate area. If you are unsure, ask beforehand: appointment via buchen.html, prices on behandlungen.html, by phone on 0172 914 55 78.

Frequently asked
Who treats me, and how much does she see?
Hatice Ispir, the owner, with the specialist qualification under the NiSV. She sees exactly the section that is being treated at that moment, the rest stays under the towel. The studio is exclusively for women, appointments are scheduled one at a time, and nobody else comes in. The NiSV requires that the person being treated „is advised and informed before the application“ (our translation; the original German wording is authoritative). That is what the conversation before the first session is for.
Can I come during my period?
Yes, if you feel comfortable with it. With a tampon or a menstrual cup it is technically no problem. The skin is often more sensitive on those days, though, which is why many prefer to put the appointment in the week afterwards. Just let us know, we will move it without asking questions.
What applies during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
We do not treat the intimate area during this time. Reliable long-term data is missing, and above all hormones change hair growth so strongly that the result would be unreliable. We continue the series afterwards; sessions already done are not lost.
Do I have to shave beforehand, or let the hair grow?
Shaving yes, smooth 1 to 2 days beforehand. Waxing, plucking and epilating no, not for at least 4 weeks. The laser finds the hair through the pigment in the root, and for that the hair has to be sitting in the follicle. If you are unsure, come shaved; we will look at it together at the studio.
Will it really be smooth forever?
No, and nobody should promise you that. Permanent hair removal means a permanent reduction. For many, a noticeably thinner, sparser growth remains after the series. Hormonal phases can reactivate individual follicles; as a rule a top-up is enough for that.
What does it cost, and do I pay per session?
Billing is per session, you do not have to buy a package. You will find the current price for Laser bikini line and for Laser intimate area, full in our treatment and price overview on behandlungen.html. If you have several zones done regularly, the memberships are listed there too. What makes sense for you is something we discuss in the conversation before the first session.
